As I write this first blog entry I find myself both anxious and excited by what lies ahead. Anxious to get started, and excited to be a part of the 24-member team whom I’ll soon meet. This is Rotaplast International’s first entry into West Africa. Given that, we’re privileged to have as our Medical Director, Dr. Angelo Capozzi, co-founder of Rotaplast, with 38 Rotaplast missions under his belt and Rosalie Wells, our Mission Director, also with a wealth of experience. Rosalie will be leading us on her 9th Rotaplast mission.

Our goal is “a successful completion of our mission”. Our journey will vary for each of us and the families we help, both physically and emotionally.

That having been said, much prep work and training have preceded our departure date of November 25, 2011. An advance team has visited the hospital and staff in Afagnan, and team leaders have prepared for the team operations and team logistics in order to serve as many children as possible.

Seven non-medical volunteers from Rotary District 7780 (Northern New England), raised $50,000 to help co-sponsor the mission with Smile Train.
