Rotaplast has lost a great friend with the passing of Wayne Schoenfeld. As a photographer, he accompanied many missions, documenting the people, the places and the visiting medical teams in a way that revealed the drama, the passion, beauty, pain, and triumphs large and small that mark humanitarian work.
With a background spanning many fields of endeavor—commercial airline pilot, licensed psychotherapist, certified scuba diver, successful entrepreneur, filmmaker, philanthropist—Schoenfeld found a passion in photography that allowed him to exercise many of his talents. His association with Rotaplast gave him the opportunity to be an artist with a humanitarian focus.
Almost Perfect the book he produced about his first Rotaplast mission to Vietnam, won the Independent Publishing Association’s Most Outstanding Book of the Year award in 2003. Schoenfeld went on to publish many books about Rotaplast including Mission to India and Everyday Heroes, a series profiling Rotaplast physicians.
At Wayne’s request there will be no memorial service. Donations in Wayne’s name can be made to Rotaplast by visiting the Donate page on our website and selecting Yes as a tribute.
