Monday evening, the Rotaplast Team met in San Francisco for our flight to San Salvador departing at 1:30 a.m. The quartermaster, Dick Burkhalter & his able bodied assistant, Talyon Sortor had 35 boxes destined for Salvador. The medical team is being led by Medical Director James Callison, and Dr. Angelo Capozzi is on board as well. The team assembled for the 1st time to be briefed by Mission Director Tom Fox. We found that many team members have shared other missions together.
Assistant Quarter Master was Talyon Sortor & the Mission Director was Tom Fox. Tom introduced the team members, and provided a mission update. The team consists of 18 medical and 10 Rotarians from District 5160 in Northern California. We had plenty of time to bond with a 1:30 am departure. The team arrived at 8:00 a.m. in San Salvador, and proceeded to the hotel, a quick respite, and then on to prepare for the pre-clinic. The hospital is the Hospital Militar, which greeted us with open arms. The evening concluded with dinner, hosted by local Rotarians Oscar & Patty Pena at their home, overlooking the lights of San Salvador.
