On Saturday the Rotaplast Team, local medical professionals, and students attended the 1st International Seminar, “Más Sonrisas Para Colombia”, on cleft lip and palate anomalies. Rotaplast, Club Rotario de Pereira Perla del Otún, Fundación Sonríe, and Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira sponsored the event. It is part of the program to establish a permanent, year-round, multidisciplinary cleft care program in Pereira.
The auditorium was packed. The session opened with a moment of silence in recognition of Dr. Carlos Enrique Hoyas, MD, who recently passed away. His widow and son were given a commemorative document recognizing Dr. Hoyas’ many contributions.
Drs. Anne Delaney, Marie Tolarová, Mirek Tolar, Kamlesh Patel, Soledad Rodríguez Livesey, Jorge Iván Cardona, Germán Betancur and Yenny Ariza, all of whom are playing an active role in this mission, were the key presenters.
