Safe, Thankful, Hopeful
At about 8:10am this morning in Cebu City, Philippines, we experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that lasted over 30 seconds. The epicenter was in nearby Bohol. All Rotaplast patients and volunteers are safe.
The hospital was quickly evacuated. Makeshift wards were erected in a vacant lot in front of the hospital, away from nearby buildings and power lines in case of a large aftershock. Men climbed poles to string lines and hoist tarps to create shade for the patients. The rapid response by the staff and everyone on the scene at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center was impressive.
