A beautiful piece of artwork by David Cachay of Rotaplast surgeon Ian Wilson, memorializing the work done on a Rotaplast mission to Liberia in 2012.  Both David and Ian were on that mission.  David’s story:

This is an interesting story of grandma, the baby girl and Surgeon (Ian Wilson). In Liberia 2012, Ian repaired the cleft lip of this little girl. The lady holding her was called “grandma” in her village for her work raising children with no parents.

This painting depicts the surgeon examining the post-operative result which Grandma and sister are admiring. The reflection in the mirror shows the pre-operative cleft defect. The baby in the mirror is gazing at the surgeon. The baby in the centre is looking at us.

Reflection – Liberia. Pastel. 18×24. David Cachay.
