Kevin Shultz is from the Portsmouth Rotary Club and this is his second Rotaplast Mission. During the pre-clinic phase of the Misson, Kevin was assigned to help with the photos. Each patient was assigned a folder and a photograph of that patient was taken, printed & attached to the folder.
While this patient’s photo is printing, Kevin is talking with Mission Director, Sangita Seshadri.
Kevin is working on another photo.
Once the initial surge of patients were photographed and surgeries were scheduled Kevin was able to do the job he was assigned to do on this Mission – Sterilizer!
After a surgery is complete, Kevin takes the cart to the sterilization area.
Sometimes the hospital staff would help Kevin get the cart to the sterilization room.
Once in the sterilization room gloves are required. At this stage the items may have blood on them. They have to be rinsed and cleaned then sterilized.
Here Kevin is washing down the instruments.
Kevin was often helped by Leonard Seagren.
Once the items are rinsed they go into a liquid bath cleaner for about 15 minutes.
Once they come out of the cleaner they are dried off.
And taken to another room for packing.
Once they are all aligned on the tray they are wrapped up tight and sent into the autoclave.
Wrapping
Wrapped up tight and taped in.
Finally they are put in the autoclave for final the final sanitation.
Once out of the autoclave the instruments are ready to be used again.
Here Kevin and Dianne are counting (clean) instruments and packaging them for the return trip to San Francisco.
