Over the course of seven days, approximately 50 patients, ranging in age from just three-months to 78-years old, are scheduled for various procedures, including cleft lip and palate repairs, as well as burn and scar revisions. The mission is a blend of first-time surgeries and follow-up surgical revisions for those who had previously received care from Rotaplast International.
The days are long and filled with activity as the team works to ensure that each patient is cared for with compassion and expertise. Many patients are shy at first, but are soon comforted by the warm environment created by the team. Others, who have been waiting for years for this opportunity, are filled with excitement and hope.
As the surgeries unfold, the families eagerly await the results. The gratitude in the eyes of the patients and their loved ones is palpable. When a young child or their parents first sees their repaired cleft lip, the transformation is more than physical—it is emotional. The joy and relief are overwhelming.
