The Surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, physiotherapists and volunteers all go on missions because of the lives they change through miraculous surgeries that transform lives. The team on this mission to Luxor, Egypt showed their dedication to the mission and stayed positive and upbeat despite long travel days, delayed flights and sleepless nights – it is all worth it when we see our first patients.
The journey to Luxor was a long one, especially for the west coast team who flew in on a red-eye flight to meet the rest of the team at JFK. It was great to meet up with old friends and meet new ones. The camaraderie of the team is second to none.
Ted, mission director, and Robert, mission quartermaster successfully transferred the 29 boxes from terminal 4 to terminal 1 at JFK so they were ready to be checked in with the complete team on our flight to Cairo.
The team had an overnight stop in Cairo and the flew on to Luxor the next day. Checking the boxes through customs in Luxor was the an excellent decision – I don’t think there has been a more trouble-free customs in the history of Rotaplast!
Finally after 2 or 3 days of travel the team caught the bus to the hotel in Luxor and a chance to sleep in a bed for at least a few hours to be ready for the day 1 clinic.
