Day 3 – Once we arrived at the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza in mid-town, Lima, our team set its sites on screening as many candidates suitable for surgery as possible. This process typically involves checking/registering each potential patient, taking pre-surgery photographs, getting vital signs, a medical history, and determining if a patient is fit for surgery. Our surgeons counseled parents on the children who qualified for surgery and offered a surgical plan. We registered and pre-screened over 100 candidates, and after discussions with the surgical team and hospital administrators, it was decided that 75 would be scheduled for surgery. It was a long day, but the team is really looking forward to getting into the OR rooms tomorrow.
