The first surgery day for Rotaplast began early with a thorough debriefing, after which we immediately started with our first patient, a child with a cleft lip. This successful procedure marked a beautiful start to our mission.
Throughout the day, the complexity of the surgeries on the three operating tables increased, including several cases of cleft lip combined with a cleft palate. The team, quickly becoming well-coordinated, worked efficiently together. Kim’s planning board served as a central point for discussion and provided stability for the day’s progression.
Surgeons Hootan, George, Bijoy, and Chang closely coordinated with anesthesiologists Jan, Swanny, and Ilze. The OR and PACU nurses also found their stride in this dynamic, which was enhanced by pediatricians Booney and René. They continued under the leadership of Agnes and assistant Tessa to the nursing wards. In addition, an educational program was established to foster sustainable connections and knowledge exchange with local doctors and students, with Karen ensuring the right impact.
A stimulating and productive day, promising much for the rest of our mission.
