8 month old Julie is in happy spirits despite the heat and her hunger as she sits with her parents Jose and Jelyn.  She is the youngest of four siblings and the only one in her family born with a cleft lip and palate.  This year; today, her lip will be repaired. The family is hopeful that during a future Rotaplast mission to Cebu City Julie’s palate can be repaired.  If so, Julie has a chance for a joyful childhood.  Jose is not working at the moment in order to make this trip for his daughter.  They traveled here by Jeepney, which is a small local bus and taxi. This year; today Julie’s lip is repaired.   The family, as many families here, are being supported by an NGO called Abounding Love.I speak with Kristian Malaga who tells me that Abounding Love was founded in 2013 as a World Organization with support from the USA and locally from the people of Liloan – where Abounding Love is based.   They provide support for patients’ families including transportation and accommodations. Each day, a team of young volunteers visit to distribute food and necessities. Rotary Club of Cebu Port Center contacted Abounding Love in 2014 to partner with the Rotaplast missions.  They have been helping the Cebu City Rotaplast mission ever since.
